Today, the judge terminated parental rights for all three children.
Carrot and Zucchini have been in the system for more than three years. Pumpkin for his entire life.
Our trial was delayed twice. Delayed from December to March. Then again from March until May.
Croi and I each testified yesterday. We each cried on the stand.
We got a late start yesterday, and court ran long. I was afraid we would be adjourned until June.
But, the judge fit us in this morning. After feeling constantly scrutinized as a parent, I would have sat there all morning listening to him describe us as “ferocious protectors” “loving” and saying we are, “creating not a house but a home, they only home they have known.” It was one of the most vindicating experiences as a foster parent. I especially loved when he called the adoption of Carrot and Pumpkin a “done deal.”
We don’t have an adoption date yet–and we were cautioned it could still be as long as 6-9 months from now. We fully expect biomom to file an appeal, although we are not worried about it being granted.
Tonight, the kids have their final visit with their biomom.
And, then we toast.
