While we were camping a month or so ago, Baby Brittany, the doll Zucchini had recently passed along to Carrot, suddenly went missing. One minute, she was sitting on the floor next to the diaper bag, while we ate lunch in a restaurant, and when we went to leave–no Baby Brittany. Baby Brittany looked, shall we say, rather well loved.

We searched, left our phone number with the restaurant, and went to go see a kid’s play. No word from Baby Brittany.

Friday night, we sat with Zucchini, processing a screaming fit she had on Friday, explaining what “make amends” means. If you punch a wall, you can do your best to patch it, but it will never be the same.

Saturday morning, all Zucchini can talk about is using some money she got as a gift to purchase “a new baby doll for Carrot, because I know how much she loooved Baby Brittany and she was sooo sad when she got lost.”

We weren’t suspicious before, but Croi and both raised an eyebrow.  Was she making amends?
