Seeing friend’s babies who are of similar age to Pumpkin and hearing what they are doing is hard. Not because it’s a competition. But, because of Pumpkin’s beginnings, it’s hard to know where he is going.
Last night, Croi and I studied the first year child development books, trying to gauge where he fits. His Birth-to-Three interventionist made me feel a bit better today, saying she “was worried last time, but now that he is displaying so many precrawling skills she is not worried anymore.”
His genetics and in-utero exposure gave him a shaky start. I was reassured several times that “we are doing everything we can” and “giving him a nutrient rich environment.” But, doing what we can will only get us so far.
