Welcome

Some wonderful friends threw a “Welcome Baby Pumpkin” party this weekend.  So sweet and we were touched.

But, also a little uncomfortable.  The two women hosting the party know many of the details of our lives. But, I was not sure all of the guests were clear that we are potential adoptive parents.

A shower before we were licensed? Gifts not tied to any specific child. Wonderful.

Adoption party? Can’t even dream of the wonder of permanency.

Welcome party? So sweet. But awkward.

He is welcome. As long as he is here. And always and forever. Welcome in our home.

I just don’t want anyone to feel taken advantage of.

He’s here now. That’s what matters. If I had been a guest at said party and later found that you were not Pumpkin’s forever family? I would offer up my shoulder for you to cry on, but never once would I feel taken advantage of. Don’t underestimate your friends and their capacity to get it. ❤
